CASE NAME
Johnson v. State of Oregon et al
Overview
Plaintiff, an employee of Oregon's Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), alleges that her employer created a hostile work environment for white employees and retaliated against her when she complained about the organization's approach to DEI.
Details
Plaintiff alleges that DEQ segregated employees based on race by giving non-white employees one paid hour a week to enter "safe spaces," instructed employees to prioritize the views of non-white employees during meetings, and mandated trainings that ascribed negative characteristics to white people. She alleges that when she spoke up in opposition to these practices, her employer demoted her, cut her pay, and initiated an investigation into her.
On December 9, 2024, the court refused DEQ's , allowing Plaintiff's "hostile work environment" claim to proceed.
